Outdoor sockets
It can be annoying when you want to cut your grass and you try and get the cable through the kitchen window or even try and find your extension cable. More and more homeowners are now getting an outside socket installed which makes this a lot easier but what do you need to know about outside sockets?
- They must be dust/waterproof. When having an outside socket installed your electrical will get one that is IP Rated specifically for this use. Most outdoor sockets will be an IP rating of IP65.
- The outdoor sockets will be RCD protected as this will prevent you from having a nasty electric shock if something was to happen.
- Almost all electricians will drill through the back of an existing indoor socket (normally in the kitchen), but if they are not able to then they will run a cable from the indoor socket, along a wall and the exposed wire will be protected by a conduit or other means of mechanical protection.
