Our homes mean everything to us and that is why it is important that it is safe. Smoke alarms ensure that we are warned in case the worst happens and we can react in time to keep ourselves and our families safe.
Here is what you should know:
There are 3 types of smoke alarms
- Ionization- these will detect invisible fire particles
- Photoelectric- detects visible fire particles
- Dual detector- a combination of the two
New homes will require hard-wired or interlinked alarms as part of Building Regulation’s Compliance. Hard wired smoke alarms are more dependable as they are connected to a power supply and are not limited to a battery life.
You should have 1 smoke alarm on every story of your home and a CO2 alarm in each room which contains a solid fuel burning appliance. Plus a heat alarm in your kitchen, a heat alarm will save nuisance alarms if you burn some toast.
